NASHVILLE, Tenn— Charitable organization One By One’s new venture, the Mercy Center, is planned to open in Jinja, Uganda in 2025. The center will provide a sanctuary of hope and rehabilitation for girls who have been trafficked and exploited into sex trafficking, domestic servitude or forced labor. Dedicated professionals will support these girls and help them overcome the trauma and pain they have experienced, and then provide training in various skills before being reintegrated into their families and the wider community. Each survivor is treated as an individual, with her education and training suited to each young girls’ preferences and background.
The Mercy Center is named for Mercy, a girl born into slavery and working in bonded labor. Tragically, at the age of three Mercy’s life came to a violent end near the One By One safe house in Pakistan. Following this horrible incident, One By One resolved to honor her memory by providing a haven for other young girls facing a bleak future. It is their hope that this will be the first of many Mercy Centers to open in areas where they are desperately needed.
The Mercy Center will cost approximately $325,000 to operate; this includes site rent, utility bills, staff costs including executive team, administration, finance, social workers, counselors and teachers as well as clothing, food and medical support of up to 60 children per year.
One By One is reaching out to the generous people of the United States to ask their assistance in this most blessed project. Please help this global charity change the lives of young girls in desperate situations, so that others will not suffer the same fate as Mercy.
